dance, dance revolution!

Of course no family weekend would be complete without some serious dancing. Hana, Craig and Maceo took the prize for best in show.

Happy Birthday Dad - Love bugs at the Zoo

We just realized that Maceo is strong enough to ride on Craig's shoulders without having to hold his hands. This is a major milestone as it now means that a shoulder ride is a viable alternative to the stroller and walking. And it is just plain old fun. However, by the looks of these photos we might need to limit Maceo's "ride time" if Craig wants to have any hair by the time he reaches 39. Despite the follicular massage, Maceo intermittently bent around to plant big wet kisses on Craig's cheeks which was about the sweetest thing ever. Craig confirmed that those kisses and hugs were the best birthday gift in years.

Merry Go Round

Just in case it is not obvious, these two were trying their best to impersonate a roaring lion. These days, Maceo's favorite "aen-e-mal" (also known as "animal") is the lion so that was his immediate choice of companion. Who was having more fun? You decide for yourself...

A Few More...

More Mother's Day

Mother's Day Photos

Despite everyone feeling pretty crummy, we were determined to mark Mother's Day doing something special. We headed to the JP Arboretum to smell the lilacs and do some freestyle stomping around. After several family members previewed the photos, it was suggested that we were inventing our ailments. I admit that we look pretty happy despite our runny noses and hacking coughs.

Happy Birthday Grandpa BobBob

Grandpa BobBob (Maceo's new moniker for Craig's father) celebrated his 70th birthday this past week. What better way to mark such a momentous birthday than to splurge on an oyster brunch? We enjoyed 30+ amazing oysters and other seafood delicacies at the new Island Creek Oyster Bar this past Sunday. It is a beautiful open space with comfortable seating, excellent service, and plenty of oysters to choose from. While Maceo does have a penchant for the gourmet (aged Gruyere, Manchego, and Truffled Parmesan to name a few favorites) we decided not to push our luck with raw oysters. However, he still makes a pretty cute poster boy! Happy Birthday Bob - XOX

* In case you don't recognize it, this is BobBob demonstrating "Here is the church, here is the steeple, open the doors and see all the people." Maceo was impressed.

The Apple of my Eye

Last weekend we returned to Hancock, New Hampshire to pick apples with Maceo, Grandpa Bob and a local friend. Not only did the orchard provide a nice backdrop for some classic New England photos, but Maceo discovered a love for fresh apples (up until now he has been eating apple sauce). Once he got started, there was no stopping him!

Since this discovery, we have been putting him in his high chair during dinner and giving him a cored and peeled half-apple to work on. In about 15 minutes, he is able to use his three little teeth efficiently enough to whittle down the full half apple into about an eighth the size of the initial offering (at which point he starts to either finger-paint with the remains or rub them into his hair).

Day two of our vacation in Maine - stopping at a local lobster pound for some lobster rolls and a photo opportunity.

We're All Grown Up

While in Portland, I was able to reconnect with two dear old high school friends and their kids. To add to the nostalgia, we decided to meet up at Wilshire Park - the site of many debaucherous high school parties. Oh how the times of changed. These days the park boasts a great playground for kids of all ages. Ashley has a sweet little girl named Daisy who is 2 years old, and Laura has three kids: twin 5 year old boys and a 7 year old daughter named Caroline. The weather was perfect for playground lounging and Caroline was showing off her babysitting skills. As you can see from the photos, Maceo determined that the swings on the West Coast were just as exciting as the East!
